Students complete an independent research project in the area of Obesity & Weight Management.

The project takes place over the summer months.

Written project report - 70% (covers all ILOs) (word count specific to journal)

Supervisor report, including assessment of professional behaviour - 25%  (covers all ILOs)

Critical reflection of how project work has met AfN core competencies and standards - 5% (ILO4) (300-500 words)

The supervisor report cannot be re-assessed.

Students who do not achieve a C3 or above on first sitting have one opportunity to re-sit any or all assessment components except those noted above. Students who fail to meet the minimum D3 threshold of a component, even if the overall C3 has been achieved, will have one opportunity to re-sit that component to meet the requirements of accreditation with the exception of the supervisor report.

To provide students with the skills to be able to plan and execute an independent nutrition research project in the area of Obesity & Weight Management and present and discuss its findings.

On completion of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically design and execute a research project, including an evaluation of the literature, in the area of obesity and weight management.

2. Organise and present research reports, critically discussing limitations contributions to current knowledge.

3. Plan and manage time effectively by prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.

4. Critically reflect on which AfN core competencies and standards have been met by this piece of work.

As per the Association for Nutrition accreditation requirements students must submit all assessment components and achieve a minimum grade of D3 in each component.
