Short Description
This course introduces to basic concepts of contract law by principal reference to English law. The course concentrates on principles of: formation of contracts; the content of contracts; vitiating factors; and breach of contract and remedies. Students are also introduced to certain debated themes in contract law.

Thirty one-hour lectures; six one-hour tutorials.
Requirements of Entry
Entry to the Common law LLB or visiting student.

The assessment consists of a two-hour unseen written examination at the end of the course.

Course Aims
■ To develop knowledge and comprehension of the principles and themes addressed in each part of the course, by principal reference to English law (see box 6, above).
■ To enhance students' legal research, writing, and problem-solving skills.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the principles and themes addressed in each part of the course (see box 6, above).
■ Independently conduct legal research, identify and employ features of good legal writing, and respond usefully to legal problems.
