Short Description

This course is designed for postgraduate students (taught and research) who need to acquire a reading knowledge of medieval Latin. No prior knowledge of any form of Latin is assumed. The emphasis of the course is on the intelligent and rigorous use of reference works (e.g. grammars, dictionaries, translations) as much as it is on the memorisation of language forms and vocabulary.

Course Aims

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

On the successful completion of Medieval Latin for postgraduates 1 students will be able to

· apply their knowledge of the complete inflection of nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs in order to analyse simple examples of Medieval Latin
· translate simple examples of Medieval Latin accurately into fluent English, using dictionaries and grammars
