Short Description
In this course, students will take significant steps in their preparation as a socially just educator by focusing on the development of dispositions, knowledge, and skills that reflect and enable them to act upon their understandings of a critical sociological lens on social (in)justice in their classrooms, schools, and communities.
Timetable
Up to 30 hours face to face with a mixture of lectures and tutorials.

Assessment
Assessment 1 (70%): Written personal reflection (3000 words)
Assessment 2 (30%): Presentation (individual reflection on community study and dialogical journal). (1000 word equivalent)
Course Aims
This course aims to support students in strengthening their knowledge and critical understanding of the dispositions, knowledge, and skills of socially just teachers. By reflecting upon their own professional identity, and demonstrating their personal and professional development through the course, they will build upon their provisional registration and continue toward meeting the Professional Standards for full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Define and explain the dispositions necessary for being a transformative educator;
2. Define and explain social justice, including specific examples;
3.Identify and elaborate on causes and effects of social injustice in order to give examples of how to promote social justice as transformative educators in their own contexts.
