Short Description
Artificial intelligence is emerging as a powerful force in shaping the future of education, creating new possibilities for how we teach, learn, and improve educational experience in diverse contexts. This course examines AI as both a technological and social phenomenon, inviting participants to consider its design potential, and challenges. By engaging with contemporary debates and exploring possible futures, participants will gain insight into how AI and related technologies might redefine educational practice, impacts learners' experience, shape policy. From this broader perspective, the course then turns to the realities focusing on how AI can support reflective teaching, impact on learners' autonomy, strengthen evidence-informed practice, and offer learning analytics and data-driven recommendations. Ultimately, this course will prepare participants to lead in the responsible use of AI in diverse educational contexts.

Written Assessment (50%)
Case Study: The Role of AI in Education (2,000 words)
Students will write a case study that critically evaluates their positionality, assumptions, the AI tool and responsible use in diverse educational contexts (in the context of their choice).
Presentation: AI and the Transformation of Learning (50%) (2000 word or equivalent)
Students will submit a presentation that envisions a plausible future scenario for the use of AI technology in diverse educational contexts including pedagogical and policy recommendations.

1. To ensure participants become critical users of AI technology, who can uncover assumptions and views around education technology and AI
2. To critically frame and evaluate the use of AI and related technologies for different users in diverse educational contexts.
3. Prepare educators, researchers, and developers to lead responsibly in creating and applying AI for sustainable educational improvement.
4. Discuss and analyse the potential of AI and related technologies to transform learners' experience and educators' perspectives.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the potential and challenges of AI technology and uncover the assumptions and views around education technology and AI.
2. Apply frameworks to evaluate the use of AI and related technologies for different users in diverse educational contexts, demonstrating an understanding for its potential to empower learners, from a research informed stance.
3. Critically engage with theories and research-informed practice in order to promote reflective teaching, learner's autonomy and responsible use of AI technology in diverse educational contexts.
4. Appraise approaches for leading and implementing responsible application of AI technology that support learner's development and sustainable education improvement.
5. Discuss and analyse the potential of AI and related technologies to transform learners' experience and educators' perspectives.
