This course will critically examine theories of marginalisation and exclusion through the lenses of sexual and reproductive health; drug use; and food insecurity and sustainability; and will explore youth and community work responses

Assessment 1 - Podcast or Video - 40%

1. Students will produce a 10-minute podcast or video in which they provide a critical review of youth and community work responses to one topic covered in the course. The podcast or video should apply both relevant theory and practice-based responses to the topic.

Assessment 2 - Essay (2000 words) - 60%

Students must critically assess adversity and marginalisation in communities such as drug use, reproductive justice and /or food insecurity and sustainability and consider community development responses.

To enable students to critically analyse and develop responses to multiple sites of adversity and marginalisation within communities.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

LO1 Critically assess a range of complex adversities experienced in communities, locally and globally.

LO2: Critically evaluate theoretical constructs of diversity and marginalisation.

LO3: Critique and explore youth and community work responses to drug use, reproductive justice and food insecurity and their practice implications in communities.

LO4: Identify national and local community development policies and praxis to reduce marginalisation.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
