Short Description

This course supports student teachers to become critically-informed practitioners who can analyse curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in relation to inclusive education and additional support needs. The thematic approach will offer enhanced opportunities for student teachers to justify their pedagogical choices.

Timetable

Students spend 12 weeks on placement and so this course will be timetabled around the placement days/ weeks.

Assessment

Part 1: 30% contextually responsive and inclusive lesson or a short series of lessons with a critical commentary that justifies the design (approx. 900 words equivalent)

 

Part 2: 70% Reflective Professional Portfolio reflects on and evaluates the impact of chosen pedagogical and assessment strategies and a professional development action plan (approx. 2100 words)

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to develop student teachers as reflective, enquiring and empowered professionals to become critically informed practitioners who can synthesise theory, research and practice as they develop skills in design inclusive and contextually responsive learning experiences. It seeks to foster professional agency as part of a lifelong commitment learning with caring, inclusion, social justice and flourishing at the heart of educational practice.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Synthesise and critically evaluate theory, research and practice to inform inclusive and contextually responsive curriculum design.

2. Design and justify inclusive learning experiences.

3. Critically reflect on and evaluate the impact of pedagogical strategies in relation to inclusive education as part of lifelong professional learning.
