Short Description

By completing a school placement, students will demonstrate competence in meeting aspects of the Standard for Initial Teacher Education.

Students will be observed teaching in Schools and will be assessed on a Pass/Fail basis.

Course Aims

The course provides students with opportunities to undertake the following within a School context:

 

*To develop a critical understanding of the current Religious Education curricula, policy and practice in all schools including Catholic and other faith schools

*To develop a critical understanding of the current curriculum, policy and practice

*To develop a critical understanding of their roles in constructing effective cycles of teaching, learning , assessment and evaluation for children

*To enable students to plan, design, evaluate and justify a range of pedagogical strategies

*To ensure that students understand the link between effective teaching and the quality of children's

learning, and the central importance of building productive relationships within learning communities

*To build an understanding of teaching as a contested activity and reconcile their developing sense of professional identity in order to enable them to operate confidently in constantly changing curricular contexts

*To develop as teachers who engage in working with children and young people in creative and innovative ways through Field Experience

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

learn to create effective learning environments for all

- use assessment to sustain effective learning


- contribute actively to learning communities


- develop personal and professional learning by deploying the competences as a self evaluatory tool for ongoing development.

Pass and 90% attendance whilst on School Experience
