This course enables students to conduct a practitioner enquiry within Design and Technology Education relevant to their professional development and to pupil learning.
5 two-hour sessions and ongoing supervision.
Requirements of Entry
Assessment work will be based on a dissertation project.
This course aims to provide students with research knowledge and skills to explore an area of Design and Technology Education relevant to their professional development and to pupil learning.
This course supports students to develop the knowledge required to meet the following elements of the Standard for Provisional Registration:
1 Professional values and personal commitment, specifically: Demonstrating a commitment to engaging learners in real world issues to enhance learning experiences and outcomes, and to encourage learning our way to a better future; Demonstrating a commitment to motivating and inspiring learners, acknowledging their social and economic context, individuality and specific learning needs and taking into consideration barriers to learning.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Develop research questions appropriate to the exploration of their chosen area of investigation.
2. Design an appropriate research strategy to gather evidence to respond to the research questions.
3. Conduct a Practitioner Enquiry to support their knowledge and understanding of the area of enquiry within education.
4. Analyse evidence in a rigorous manner supported by appropriate research methodologies.
5. Write a report that presents the research in logical and critical manner.
6. Reflect on their project findings and state how their research will support them to take an evidence-based approach to teaching and learning in their subject area.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must complete all elements of the summative assessment. Students must attain a D3 overall grade.
