Short Description

This final placement should consolidate experiences and skills gained in previous placements. The students will be benchmarked against the Standard for Initial Teacher Education as published by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

Timetable

Semester 2 full time, five days per week for 11 weeks.

Requirements of Entry

Successful completion of School Experience 3 and Teacher Education 3.

Co-requisites

Teacher Education 4.

Assessment

There will be two visits to observe students teaching throughout the course of the placement, during which time tutors will be happy to discuss the progress students are making. The final assessment will be made on the basis of these visits, the school's report, and on the quality of the school experience record.

Course Aims

To meet the Standard for Initial Teacher Education as outlined by the General Teaching Council of Scotland.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

■ Plan and prepare individual lessons and programmes of work to a professional standard

 

■ Deliver lessons to pupils S1 - S6 where appropriate

 

■ Utilize ICT when appropriate in planning, preparation and delivery of lessons

 

■ Assess as an integral part of the teaching and learning process

 

■ Display confidence and competence in classroom management

 

■ Conduct working relationships with colleagues on a professional basis

 

■ Maintain a teaching file continuing to plan, record and evaluate all lessons taught

 

■ Contribute on at least a weekly basis to the on-line school experience forum

 

■ Attend and participate in in-service days and parents consultations where appropriate

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Satisfactory attendance at placement (90% minimum, as per GTCS requirements); satisfactory completion of all school based tasks including school experience record; satisfactory reports from school partners and visiting tutors.
