Short Description
This course explores the teacher's role as a curriculum designer through examining how curriculum theories shape educational practice. The course integrates principles of child development to inform pedagogical decisions and supports meaningful learning experiences that connect subject knowledge to learners' lives.

Assessment
60%: written assignment on how curriculum theory relates to practice (1200 words)
40%: project output to evidence alignment of child development theory with effective teaching and learning (approx. 800 words equivalent).

Course Aims
The aim of this course is to develop student teachers as reflective, enquiring and empowered professionals who understand how curriculum theories influence curriculum design. It aims to enable them to apply principles of child development in making informed pedagogical decisions. It also seeks to foster reflection on the teacher's role as a designer in creating inclusive and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
