Short Description

This course aims to support the development of essential knowledge, understanding and skills within the area of Graphics, necessary for teachers of technical subjects.

Students will complete a structure programme of assessed graphics tasks and a more extend project.

Course Aims

This course aims to address the development of essential knowledge, understanding and skills within the area of Graphics, necessary for technology teachers, in relation to the computer based programmes and techniques required by the secondary technology curriculum. The course also seeks to provide technology students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to support their design and engineering education in relation to computer based programmes and techniques.

 

This course supports the achievement of the following elements of the Standard for Provisional Registration:

 

2.1.1 Have knowledge and understanding of the nature of the curriculum and its development

2.1.2 Have knowledge and understanding of the relevant area(s) of pre-school, primary or secondary curriculum

3.1.1 Plan coherent, progressive and stimulating teaching programmes which match learners' needs and abilities

3.1.2 Communicate effectively and interact productively with learners, individually and collectively.

 

This course also aims to develop the following University of Glasgow graduate attributes across the academic, personal and social dimensions of each: subject specialists; investigative; effective communicators; confident; reflective learners.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the course the student will be able to:

■ Demonstrate a comprehensive range of graphics skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to computer based applications;

■ Produce drawings using a CAD programme;

■ Select and produce appropriate computer based drawings in relation to the context and information required;

■ Display a foundational understanding of desktop publishing and CAG software;

■ Work independently in response to a design brief using computer based programmes;

■ Recognize the role of help features in relation to learning and using computer based programmes.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must have an 80% attendance or better at all timetabled classes. Students must achieve at least a D3 grade. Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
