By the end of this course students will:

Have developed an understanding of the contrasts of learning and teaching in a behaviorist and socially constructivist setting.

Be able to reflect on pedagogy and resources in relation to theories of learning.

Begin to develop a critical and analytical stance in relation to their own practice and the practice of others.

Be able to identify effective learning situations within a classroom situation

Begin to understand the needs of pupils in relation to support for learning

Understand the principles of curriculum and course construction.

Understand the shape of the Scottish secondary curriculum and how it links to prior learning.

Understand the links between effective learning and effective curriculum planning.

Be more aware of the needs of individual children.

Have considered the links between individual needs and the stage of development.

Become aware of the need for pastoral care and pupil support.

Developed some understanding of the issues in pastoral care and counselling young people.

Developed some understanding of how the guidance system operates in a Scottish secondary school.

Developed an understanding of the importance of personal and social education.
