Short Description
Rooted within the context of Learning for Sustainability, this course examines the personal context within which children learn. By exploring the relational, environmental and socio-cultural situations of learning, students will build their awareness and understanding of sociological and developmental theories of education, inclusive and place-responsive pedagogies, and conceptions of participatory and lived citizenship.

Assessment
Assessment 1 (50%): Students will prepare a case study of the educational context of an imagined child (1000 words).
Assessment 2 (50%): Personal, critical reflection (1000 words).
Course Aims
This course aims to support students to:
Build their knowledge of the personal relational, environmental and socio-cultural contexts of learners.
Develop and sustain curious, critically conscious, and asset-focused dispositions as educators.
Build the skills of enquiry, listening, and reflection in understanding the contextual life of learners.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. To demonstrate their developing knowledge of the personal relational, environmental and socio-cultural contexts of learners.
2. To identify and describe curious, critically conscious, and asset-focused dispositions in educators.
