Short Description
This second-semester course will build on the Principles and Practices of Coastal Area Planning. It will focus on advanced methodologies and techniques of coastal planning required to provide solutions to the evolving environmental, social, and economic challenges impacting coastal areas and resources. A core feature of this course is integrating innovative tools such as GIS for coastal monitoring and decision-making processes. Case studies will be used to highlight best practices, such as effective ways of engaging with communities and challenges of dynamic coastal modelling.

Assessment
Practical skills assessment (60%). (ILOs, 1, 2 and 3).
Group project to develop coastal management plan (40%), with weighting for both individual and group performance. (ILOs, 1, 2 and 3).
Course Aims
This course will equip students with the skills and knowledge to utilize GIS for complex spatial data analyses, understand coastal dynamics and vulnerabilities, model potential impacts, and develop sustainable management solutions. Students will apply these practical skills to solve complex problems impacting the coastal environment and resource use.

1. Explain the multifaceted sustainability challenges inherent in coastal planning approaches and analyze their implications;
