Short Description

Substantial piece of writing normally 12,000 - 15,000 words, presenting original research on a topic relevant to management of media and demonstrating a good understanding of surround fields of study.

Requirements of Entry

Standard entry to Masters at College level.

A candidate will be permitted to progress to preparation of the dissertation, or other substantial independent work required by the degree. Only if they have obtained a grade point average of 12 (equivalent to C3) or above in the taught courses with at least 75% of the credits at grade D3 or better and all credits at grade F or above.

Course Aims

course aims to:

■ develop and enhance students' personal research interest in and their knowledge of their chosen topic within subject areas relevant to management of media; 

■ develop an engagement with other scholarly, critical, theoretical or applied research work relevant to the subject area; 

■ encourage the successful application

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ define, plan and execute a sustained, focused, coherent and original research project in an area relevant to management of media; 

■ demonstrate knowledge and understanding of appropriate primary and secondary sources in their chosen subject area and of how to utilise such sources effectively; 

■ demonstrate substantial and detailed first-hand knowledge of their chosen area of investigation; 

■ work independently; · demonstrate mastery of all appropriate academic conventions with regard to referencing and provision of bibliographic information;

■ execute a substantial piece of written work in clear and appropriate academic English.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
