Short Description

This course provides students with the opportunity to position themselves within a professional role in a creative project. Students will be asked to consider issues related to the design, planning and execution of a collaborative creative project, including such things as timeline, finance, personnel, impact, venue, and marketing. Projects may involve a variety of media, for example, music, theatre, film and television, visual and digital arts, or artefacts.

10 x 2 hr workshops over 10 weeks as scheduled on MyCampus

Requirements of Entry

Available to students fulfilling requirements to for Honours entry into Creative Arts and Industries and by arrangement to visiting students or students of other Honours programmes who qualify under the University's 25% regulation.

Assessment

The standard assessments for this course are:

■ Project Development Portfolio (group submission/mark) - 50%

■ Critical reflection (1500 words) - 50%

 

If required, for instance where a disability prevents a student from undertaking a specific method of assessment, the following alternatives are available:

■ An individual project as an alternative to the group project.

■ There is no alternative to the critical reflection, but a flexible deadline and extra time can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)

 

Further reasonable adjustments may be provided where necessary. Students are encouraged to consult with the course convenor.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ engender skills pertaining to working in a professional context

■ promote critical reflection on the influence of economic and institutional factors on professional creative projects

■ consider the importance of portfolio careers and networking

■ place students in critical collaborative situations that require professional communication skills

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ apply a range of professional skills relevant to the creative industries in practical, collaborative contexts

■ plan and deliver a public-facing creative project

■ collaborate effectively with others, understanding the importance of communication, negotiation and leadership in a creative context

■ critically reflect on the application of professional practices in the context of a creative career
