Short Description
This course offers an introduction to creative practice, providing key examples of projects, practices and practitioners. It provides an overview of both discipline-specific practices and also inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches to practice. It also provides the first foray in to group work and practical project preparation.

1 x 1hr Lecture (Monday 12:00) each week as scheduled on MyCampus;

8 x 1hr workshops and 2 x 1hr tutorials (Thursday 12:00) over 10 weeks as scheduled on MyCampus

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Essay (2000 words) - 50%
■ Critical Reflection (1000 words) - 25%
■ Group project pitch (group mark) - 25%
If required, for instance where a disability prevents a student from undertaking a specific method of assessment, the following alternatives are available:
■ There are no alternatives to the Essay, but extensions to the deadline can be offered as reasonable adjustment (Students should follow the usual process for extensions).
■ There are no alternatives to the Critical Reflection, but extensions to the deadline can be offered as reasonable adjustment (Students should follow the usual process for extensions).
■ There are alternatives to the Group Project Pitch. Students may complete an individual project instead of the group presentation, submit a PowerPoint presentation with substantial accompanying notes. Students should document their individual contribution to the presentation, and there is no requirement for individuals to present live.
Further reasonable adjustments may be provided where necessary. Students are encouraged to consult with the course convenor.

Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ introduce students to the diversity of creative practices, charting similarities across the arts, as well as medium-specific differences.
■ equip students with an understanding of the processes, outcomes and forms which creative practice can take.
■ enable an appreciation of the creative journey and process of bringing an idea into the world.
■ equip students with the skills to formulate a project proposal pitch (both real and imagined) for consideration by peers, staff and selected professionals.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ recognise key debates and theoretical approaches relevant to a critical understanding of different creative practices as they relate to the practitioner, medium, site, context and audience.
■ evaluate the relationship between theory and practice in the process of bringing an idea into the world.
■ work in a team to present and articulate a project proposal in a communicable, professional and persuasive manner.
