Short Description

This course is designed to provide a theoretical and practical foundation for learning how to lead teams in dynamic IT and business environments. Course material is based on evidence-based strategies and interventions, using real-world examples, that improve leadership effectiveness, team engagement, team communication and reduce workplace stress and conflict. During the course students are supported to use these techniques and develop a set of skills and reflective practices that can be applied in practice.

10 weeks of classes followed by an assessment

8 study hours a week plus 20 hours for the assessment

Requirements of Entry

Candidates should have an undergraduate degree (minimum of 2:2) from a recognised University and a minimum of 2 year's relevant work experience. Candidates who do not have a university degree should demonstrate extensive relevant work experience from 5 years above.

Assessment

The summative assessment is a 2000 word, essay and a summative quiz. The essay is based on analysis and reflection on a case study synthesising knowledge learned on the course. The quiz assesses knowledge of principles, practices and challenges associated with agile leadership.

Course Aims

This course explores agile leadership principles and practices. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to lead successful teams, projects and product development in an agile environment. Reflective elements help students to assess and adapt their practices to the working environment and provide a basis for continuous improvement.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate the principles, practices and challenges associated with agile leadership

2. Apply agile leadership principles in practical, real-world situations

3. Assess leadership style and agility and create a plan for further development of leadership skills

4. Develop approaches for continuously improving leadership practices using agile strategies
