Short Description
This course encourages students to pursue an interest in a subject within Classics and/or Ancient Cultures. Students design their own written project on the topic of their choice working with a supervisor.
Timetable
Typically 2 hours per week, a mixture of supervision meetings and/or visits.
Requirements of Entry
Standard entry to Masters at College level.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Project design and rationale (1000 words) - 30%
■ Assignment (3000 words) - 70%

Course Aims
The course aims to
- develop and deepen the student's personal research interest in a subject within Classics and/or Ancient Cultures
- promote engagement with scholarship
- encourage the application of acquired research to a supervised independent project which the student designs, appropriate to master's level.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- demonstrate specialist knowledge of their personal study area
- identify and critically analyse appropriate scholarly works
- illustrate the ability to work independently
- define, plan and execute a sustained, focused research project
