This course is the final module for the MSc MedTech Innovation programme where students will undertake a 14-week project. The course provides students with the opportunity to undertake independent research or innovation work within real-world professional contexts across research institutions, healthcare systems, industry organizations, government agencies, or regulatory bodies. Students will apply multidisciplinary knowledge and competencies developed throughout the program to address MedTech innovation challenges through original inquiry, strategic analysis, technology development, policy evaluation, or implementation research.

1. Supervisor's report (25%): The student is assessed by their project supervisor on their performance during the 14-week period; this assessment contributes 25% of the course grade. [ILO 1-5]

2. Project report (50%): The student will be assessed on the project report; this assessment contributes 50% of the course grade. [~ 6000 words] [ILO 1-4]

3. Project presentation (25%): Assessment on the performance of the student on a presentation of their work in the form of a poster; this contributes 25% of the mark. [ILO 1-4] 

This course equips students to synthesise and apply comprehensive MedTech innovation competencies through independent project work in professional settings, while developing advanced research skills, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and strategic thinking essential for leadership across healthcare technology sectors including clinical research, regulatory affairs, policy development, technology implementation, and commercial innovation.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Design, plan and undertake original research, innovation, policy analyses, or strategic development and analyses in MedTech across clinical, regulatory, commercial, or healthcare system contexts.

2. Critically evaluate and select appropriate methodologies and techniques relevant to their chosen MedTech project domain, whether clinical investigation, policy evaluation, regulatory assessment, technology implementation, or commercialization strategy.

3. Formulate and address research questions, policy challenges, or innovation opportunities through systematic analysis and critical problem-solving approaches appropriate to their chosen sector.

4. Justify the project outcomes, including critical analyses, methodological decisions, evidence-based conclusions, and recommendations.

5. Execute a complete project independently, synthesizing time management, quality standards, and regulatory compliance across diverse MedTech contexts while maintaining professional, academic and ethical standards.
