Short Description
Independent Research Project for the MSc Stem Cell for Regenerative Medicine. Students will work on a specific project within a research led laboratory with an academic supervisor and often a PhD or PDRA supervisor; supervisors will be assigned in semester 2.
Timetable
None
Requirements of Entry
Projects are carried out on campus in busy research laboratories. All students who have demonstrated programme engagement will be offered a research project. Those students who have not been engaging sufficiently with their programme courses (core and optional) in semester 1 and 2 may be offered a dry investigative project.
Excluded Courses
None
Co-requisites

Assessment
Written research project between 4,000-6,000 words (50%)
Oral presentation (20%)
Supervisors report (30%)
Course Aims
The research project aims to synthesise and apply knowledge that has been acquired throughout the programme on a topic relevant to stem cell engineering for regenerative medicine and discuss its findings.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Critically assess and summarise the literature in the area of the research project relevant to Stem Cell for Regenerative Medicine
■ Evaluate and identify an appropriate research question, demonstrating an understanding of existing theoretical or empirical knowledge
■ Critically evaluate methods in the literature and choose those appropriate for data collections and/or analysis
■ Plan and carry out an independent research project
■ Critically analyse and interpret research data
■ Present a critical discussion of the work and its relevance to the research area
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
