Short Description

This course introduces students to the large network of contemporary art spaces in the city of Glasgow. Taking place entirely through site visits, participants will immerse themselves in the rich array of collections, archives and workshops in one of Britain's most vibrant cities. Each week, one or more representatives of the host venue will be on site to introduce students to the institution, as well as to provide behind-the-scenes views of how the contemporary art scene operates.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Provide an introduction to key institutions, archives and galleries showing contemporary art in Glasgow.

■ Place Glasgow's contemporary art scene within the broader social and artistic context of contemporary art today.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Identify the key institutions, archives and galleries showing contemporary art found with Glasgow

■ Analyse and interpret the contemporary art found with in the institutions, archives and galleries visited by the course.
