In this course you will expand your basic communication skills in order to interact with speakers of the language in daily situations and familiar matters. You will develop your range of vocabulary and grammar, becoming more independent and being able to talk about yourself, your experiences and your environment. You will also be able to use the language to deal with routine situations you may encounter when travelling to the areas where the language is spoken, making use of your increased cultural awareness.
During this course, you will be working towards level B1 of the Common European Framework.
Requirements of Entry
This course is recommended for learners who have a basic knowledge of the language and/or have completed a Post-Beginner or A1+/A2 level.
Russian Stage 3
Practical skills tasks evaluating students' competence on how well productive oral (25%) and writing (25%) skills are performed.
Set exercises designed as questions or tasks intended to assess the application of knowledge in receptive listening (25%) and reading (25%) skills in the foreign language.
This course aims to:
■ Familiarise learners with language necessary to deal with some common matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
■ Enable them to deal with some situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;
■ Introduce language needed to produce simple connected text on familiar topics and current events that are of personal interest;
■ Start to develop language skills to describe personal experiences and events with some detail.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Interact in structured situations and short conversations, exchange ideas and information on familiar topics and everyday situations
■ Listen to and identify phrases and expressions in areas of personal relevance and the main point in messages and announcements;
■ Read and find specific, predictable information in texts on familiar and job-related matters;
■ Write and link sentences on everyday matters, descriptions and personal experiences.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
