Short Description

This course introduces the absolute beginner to 'seeing' and drawing accurately. The student will learn how to use a variety of drawing techniques and drawing media and how to use line, tone, texture and colour in a drawing, presented in a series of simple lessons and demonstrations. The course will consider themes such as portraiture and still life in a variety of styles. Materials are not provided.

Course Aims

To allow the student to develop techniques and skills in drawing including how to 'see' like an artist.

To familiarise the student with a variety of drawing techniques, media and equipment.

To provide instruction to allow the student to draw subject matter that is accurate, in proportion and in a variety of styles.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

Critically analyse the importance of visual perception in producing artwork and use it in making art.

Practically demonstrate how to draw accurately using drawing techniques of line and tone, texture and colours. 

Practically demonstrate a facility in a variety of drawing techniques, media and style.
