Short Description
This course uses work group techniques to introduce students to the study and writing of the novel. The issues raised in the group work form the basis for discussion and refinement of writing techniques.

Assessment
An essay analysis of the main set course text comprising 750 words, and a portfolio of the students' own writing of 1,500 words.
Course Aims
The course aims to introduce students to working closely with a set creative text and other course materials, and to build upon this knowledge in their own creative work. It will introduce students to a structured approach to writing creatively.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Demonstrate knowledge of the set text.
■ Use textual knowledge in assessments to support argumentation.
■ Produce a substantial volume of their own creative work using the techniques developed during the course.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
