Glasgow Students Punch above their Weight in National Science Slam Events!

Science Slam

Following the Graduate School’s success with the first UK science slam in July 2013, two of our star participants – Rebecca Douglas(Physics and Astronomy) and Harry Smith (Engineering) – went on to represent the University at national science slam events; Rebecca in London and Harry in Cambridge. Not only did they participate – they also won their events, thus demonstrating that the talent of our students is especially high!  Rebecca competed against participants from Imperial College and UCL  with her work on ‘Searching for Wobbles in Space’ and Harry talked about why we need aircraft propellers at his event.

Both Rebecca and Harry received a pair of boxing gloves but there was no mention of the great University of Glasgow invention, the Science Slammer cocktail!
Plans are underway for the next Glasgow event and we are keen to hear from students who would be interested in being involved. Many thanks to Rebecca and Harry for demonstrating that no-one can compete with Glasgow PhD students when it comes to presenting their research in fascinating, new and unique ways!
