Patient & Public Involvement (PPI)
We define Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) as research conducted with the active engagement of patients, carers, members of the public, and other key stakeholders—rather than research done to them or on their behalf. These individuals, often referred to as PPI partners or representatives, contribute throughout the research lifecycle, from shaping study design to supporting the dissemination of findings.
Our team is committed to supporting researchers in embedding meaningful PPI from the grant application stage through to project delivery and results dissemination. PPI support is available to all researchers across the University and the NHS, including those working in basic science or discovery research.
A central aspect of our work is an ongoing collaboration with a well-established PPI Steering Group, whose insight and experience help inform and guide our MVLS PPI strategy and priorities. Additionally, we have a PPI Group specialising in review of medical technology projects such as medical devices, health apps and large data projects.
We also provide signposting to relevant external networks and third-party organisations that offer access to experienced PPI partners, helping researchers connect with the most appropriate voices for their work.
