The Living Laboratory is proud to celebrate a major milestone for our PHOENIX trial, with the 1000th patient now recruited. This milestone, achieved exactly 8 months after launch in April 2025, is a testament to the dedication of the PHOENIX team - led by Professor Sandosh Padmanabhan and Dr Stefanie Lip - NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and the patients whose willingness to participate have made this work possible.

The PHOENIX trial is currently taking place across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in partnership with the University of Glasgow’s Living Laboratory, the NHSGGC-hosted West of Scotland Innovation Hub, and industry partners myDNA and Agena Bioscience.

The trial is generating critical, real-world evidence on the system-level impact of integrating pharmacogenomics into routine acute NHS care, evaluating 15 pharmacogenes across 60 commonly prescribed medications.

By embedding a large, randomised study directly into NHS workflows, PHOENIX aims to deliver the robust data needed to shift pharmacogenomics from research into standard clinical practice - aiming to improve medication safety and efficacy for patients and contribute to significant cost savings for healthcare systems.

The impact of this work will extend far beyond Glasgow, with PHOENIX paving the way for broader adoption of pharmacogenomics across the NHS and health services worldwide.

The Living Laboratory is proud to reach this important milestone of 1000 recruited patients, marking a significant step forward in realising this vision.
