The University of Glasgow alumnus, Emeritus Professor John Renwick, has been awarded the Sir Walter Scott Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences by the Royal Society of Edinburgh. 

In 2021, Emeritus Professor Renwick also received the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Literary Prize for the Francophonie by the Literary and Artistic Circle Catherine-de-Médicis for the contribution, through his French-language publications, to the defence of French culture and its international outreach. 

Prof Renwick is a holder of two University of Glasgow doctorates (PhD 1969, DLitt 1984) and was the John Orr Professor of French at the University of Edinburgh for 26 years (1980-2006) and is now an Honorary Fellow.
