Giles Lamb Creates Music and Sound Design for British Museum Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition
University of Glasgow alumnus Giles Lamb (BSc 1994, MPhil 1996) has composed the music and created the sound design for the British Museum's major exhibition of the Bayeux Tapestry, on display until July 2027.
Giles studied psychology and neuroscience at Glasgow before completing an MPhil in neuroscience and music psychology. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has composed music for film, television, games and immersive experiences, including the VisitScotland global campaign with the RSNO, the Cannes-winning Dead Island trailer, and the Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College Dublin.
Working alongside exhibition designers ISO Design, Giles created a soundscape intended to provide atmosphere and accompany visitors as they move alongside the tapestry.
Reflecting on the project, Giles said:
"The brief from the museum was atmosphere rather than a battle score, something that holds the space around the tapestry as people move along it. It's been a fantastic project to be part of."
Giles also continues to maintain strong links with Glasgow's creative community. Alongside fellow University of Glasgow alumnus Raymond MacDonald, he co-founded the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, and the pair released the album Two Down to Eight in 2020. He will perform at GIOfest in November and premiere a new live work, Ùrlar, in Glasgow in December.
