Short Description
The course provides an introduction to the literature, culture, and history of Greece in the period down to the Persian war. After an initial face- to-face meeting, this course will be taught online.

Course Aims
This course will provide the opportunity to:
■ Introduction the literature, history, and material and intellectual culture of Greece in the period 776-479 B.C.;
■ Explore the range of source material available for the study of this period and a variety of methodologies appropriate to its use.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Analyse and explain the main events and trends in Greek history and culture in the period 776-479 B.C.;
■ Identify primary source material, textual and visual;
■ Analyse, individually and in groups, the set texts and visual and material culture treated in the course;
■ Critique relevant secondary literature
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
