Short Description
In BDS5 students consolidate all their knowledge through repeated practical experience. Patient flow is increased especially as students working within our outreach centres. Students are still fully supervised but superving clinician interaction diminishes across the course as students gain in clinical abilities and confidence. Professionalism is heavily monitored along with legal, ethical and interprofessional relationships. Graduate attributes are honed and refined as students are prepared to join the post-graduation workforce.

The summative professional assessment will consist of a Practical Skills Assessment.
Students must complete and pass (minimum D) all components of summative assessment.

Course Aims
The course aims to:
■ Provide opportunities for expanding and consolidating clinical skills and supporting knowledge in primary and secondary dental care environments with a focus on patient safety and quality of care.
■ Facilitate students to work with patients, the dental team, wider healthcare teams and general society to optimise oral health outcomes for individuals and the population
■ Facilitate students to demonstrate their professionalism, cultural competence, wellbeing, management and leadership, and communication skills.
■ Facilitate students to demonstrate their commitment to lifelong learning, personal development and seld-management (wellbeing).
■ To enhance graduate attributes.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
Glasgow Dental School provides a semi-integrated spiral curriculum. Many of the overarching intended learning outcomes (ILO's) are taught incrementally throughout the programme. Students in BDS5 are working at the full overarching ILO level and consolidating attainment through clinical practice.
The ILO's for the BDS programme are set by our accreditation body, the General Dental Council. As this is the final course in the programme all ILO's are assessable.
