Research interests
Research Interests:
- Regenerative medicine
- Biomaterials for tissue engineering
- Magnetic fields for stem cell differentiation
- In vitro models
Background:
Emma is a PhD candidate in Cell Engineering at the University of Glasgow, funded by EPSRC through lifETIME, a centre for doctoral training in engineered tissues for discovery, industry, and medicine. Her research utilises external magnetic fields and magnetic hydrogels to accelerate osteogenesis in bone tissue engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Berry and Professor Manuel Salmeron-Sanchez. More recently, she undertook a visiting researcher position at the Centro de Biomateriales e Ingeniería Tisular at the Universitat Politècnica de València to continue her research on biomaterials and tissue engineering.
Emma holds a First-Class BSc in Anatomy from the University of Glasgow, where she was awarded the William Hunter Medal for her honours project investigating the role of NCX1.1 palmitoylation on cardiac contractile function and ischemia reperfusion injury under the supervision of Professor Will Fuller.
