School of Physics & Astronomy

Two students studying at the University of Glasgow were awarded Higgs Prizes for Physics by the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon and by Professor Peter Higgs on 29th January 2015.  These prizes are named in honour of Nobel Prize winning physicist, Professor Higgs, and is awarded for exceptional performance in Advanced Higher grade physics by students.

The Glasgow students awarded were:

Julie Lynch, formerly of St. Ninian's High School in Giffnock, who is now studying Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow, with a third subject of Physics.

Stuart McGibbon, also formerly of St. Ninian's High School in Giffnock, who is now studying Physics at the University of Glasgow.

As part of this prize, funded by the Scottish Government, the students will have the chance to travel to the CERN facility in Switzerland in July to attend their physics summer school programme, as well as to meet particle physics researchers from Glasgow and around the world.
