Spotlight: Colin Molloy
Hi! My Name is Colin Molloy and I have been here at the university of Glasgow since September 2016.
I am a Technician within the Bradley/Tobin group. The lab works with group coupled protein receptors and looks at neuroscience, mouse lung physiology or immunology. I am also the Institute Disability Champion and active member of the Athena SWAN Committee.
I look after the colonies we have here and arrange, plan and execute the experiments within the group as well as external collaborators. I use a personnel licence that I have done since the beginning and really enjoy sharing my experiences as well as training others in the technical aspects of having a licence.
I have always had a love for science as well as animals and was given an opportunity to try both over 25 years ago and never looked back. I have been all over the UK learning different techniques and increasing my skillset. Then in 2016 I moved up to Glasgow with the group I am with now.
I, like a few, have had health issues over the years. When I moved up to Glasgow I was unfortunate enough to get a Glasgow cold and ended up with Type 1 Diabetes. Something I am still trying to work on now as every day is different, challenging and is always in of all my thoughts, as my worklife, health and well-being is different every day.
I love to have a game of golf, not that I am any good, and this year has been very challenging with lockdown. I think everyone needs to have a good worklife, health and wellbeing balance and for me, its being outside. Whether that’s a game of golf or canoeing on some loch somewhere!
