Dr Louisa Campbell has just returned from an epic research fieldtrip across northern England where she visited several institutions, including Hexham AbbeyVindolanda Roman Fortress, Corbridge Roman Town and Great North Museum: Hancock.  Dr Campbell was given access to some wonderful Roman artefacts to undertake non-invasive analysis and microphotography, including the impressive Flavinus tombstone at Hexham, glass vessels with Gladiatorial scenes at Vindolanda, painted wall plaster from Corbridge and the incredibly well preserved Carrawburgh Roman altars at the Great North Museum Hancock.

The results will be published in due course, but early indications are incredibly exciting and the research has revealed previously unknown pigments on ALL of these ancient things!
