Biography

Kenneth completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Malta being awarded an MD. He completed his Foundation and Core Medical Training in the West of Scotland, where he obtained his MRCP in 2011. He then commenced Higher Specialist Training in Cardiology in the West of Scotland prior to undertaking a period of research at the University of Glasgow as a BHF funded Clinical Research Fellow under the supervision of Prof Colin Berry and Dr Caroline Haig. During this period of research he was a sub-investigator in a number of trials including SCOT-HEART and CEMARC-2.

He was awarded his PhD in September 2018 entitled “Myocardial strain measured in survivors of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction: implementation and prognostic significance of novel magnetic resonance imaging methods” which was shortlisted for Bellahouston medal.

Through collaborative work with biomathematicians in SoftMech (http://www.softmech.org) we are generating personalised computational models to risk stratify patients post-MI at risk of developing heart failure.

Following this period of doctoral research Kenneth returned to pursue his clinical training with an interest in multi-modality imaging. In 2019 he was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Specialist Registrar in Cardiology where his research interests focus on the use of non-invasive cardiovascular imaging as i) an adjunct to risk stratification and ii) understanding mechanisms of heart failure post myocardial infarction, iii) understanding mechanisms of cardiomyopathy in patients with chronic kidney disease as well as iv) well as investigating mechanisms of cardiovascular toxicity of chemotherapeutic agents.
