As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, we want to address concerns that have been brought to our attention regarding employment opportunities as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), tutors, and demonstrators.

We understand that some students may feel that these positions are not always transparently or fairly allocated. We want to assure each and every one of you that our goal is to provide equal opportunities for all students who wish to engage in these roles. Your contributions are valuable to the academic community, and we are dedicated to making the application and selection process as transparent and equitable as possible.

To further enhance transparency and inclusivity, we have established a centralised list for students interested in future employment opportunities as GTAs, tutors, or demonstrators. If you are keen to get involved and contribute to the academic community, please express your interest by emailing Tracy McArthur at tracy.mcarthur@glasgow.ac.uk. Your interest will be duly noted, and you will be contacted when the next available appointment becomes available.

Once you have secured a position you will have the opportunity to register for training through the Academic & Digital Development; 'Introduction to Learning & Teaching in Higher Education'. The course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for these roles. You can find more information and enrol in the course through the following link: www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/add/coursesweoffer/gtas/

* this training is only for registered GTAs, Tutors and Lab Demonstrators within the University of Glasgow.

We believe that providing proper training and support is essential for you to excel in these positions. By participating in the training programme, you will not only enhance your own skills but also contribute to the overall quality of education within our academic community.

Thank you for your dedication to academic excellence, and we look forward to fostering a more transparent and inclusive environment for all students.
