GRID Planners Scholarship

GRID Planners Scholarship

The University of Glasgow is the anchor partner of the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District (GRID): a place where innovation meets opportunity; a net zero innovation district that brings together world-leading academic research with public, private and social enterprise to invest in and deliver transformational change, locally, nationally and globally.

The University of Glasgow is inviting applications for two fully funded places on its new suite of accredited postgraduate Planning courses within the University’s RTPI-accredited planning school (MSc City Planning & MSc City Planning & Real Estate).

The University of Glasgow and GRID partners recognise the vital role that the planning system plays in shaping Scotland’s current and future economy. In light of a welcome and re-prioritised policy focus from both the UK and Scottish Governments — and a growing shortage of accredited planners across the country — this funding represents part of the University and GRID’s contribution towards a strategic investment in strengthening Scotland’s planning profession.

GRID aims to strengthen existing partnerships and foster new collaborations with industry, focusing on some of the most dynamic sectors of the economy, and we are committed to building impactful relationships with like-minded innovative and forward-thinking companies. As champions of economic growth, infrastructure development, and community engagement, GRID is offering successful applicants the unique opportunity to undertake a GRID ‘major project’ as part of their dissertation. This project will focus on themes central to GRID’s master-planning and applied community engagement experience, providing real-world relevance and impact.

There are a number of capital investment projects progressing at the University of Glasgow alongside our ambitious Campus Development Programme – spanning Manufacturing, Heath Innovation, Cultural and Creative Innovation, PBSA and Residential,  Retail and Leisure, Hotels and various other commercial opportunities.  We are also developing a masterplan for the Innovation District, considering how its 700 acres – and therein significant proportion of this vacant or derelict land – may be repurposed to the benefit of the City and its people: those living working and trading in GRID.

Successful candidates will benefit from a unique combination of public and private sector experience – spending time with GRID partners at Glasgow City Council and its Planning Department and have the opportunity for a summer internship placement with our industry partners at ScottishPower.
