Scottish Gut Project
The Scottish Gut Project was funded by a Network Grant from the Royal Society of Edinburgh and ran from 2021 to 2023, with Manon Mathias (University of Glasgow) as PI and Elsa Richardson (Strathclyde University) as PI. We ran interactive workshops involving the interested public, patients, artists, academics, and health practitioners to enhance public appreciation of the long history of gut health and its propagation beyond medicine, and an international symposium on Modernity and the Gut. The project has led to a special issue and the production of Human Nature —a new moving image work by project artist Kirsty Hendry.
