Rose is a senior lecturer in Economic and Social History focusing on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her previous work has looked at the history of smoking and public health in Britain and Germany. She is currently working on the history of marriage in Scotland, and also reproductive health, particularly miscarriage and pregnancy loss.
