Building on the success of regional meetings, the first International JEOL CryoARM User Meeting was hosted by the SCMI at the end of March.
The JEOL International CryoARM User Meeting, held in Glasgow on the 24th and 25th of March, brought together leading researchers, industry experts, and users of JEOL cryo-electron microscopes to exchange knowledge and highlight recent technological advances. Hosted in collaboration with the SCMI, the two-day programme featured a wide range of talks focused on developments in JEOL microscopy platforms, high-throughput data acquisition, and applications across structural biology and materials science. Attendees participated in technical sessions, international presentations, and interactive discussions, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing best practices and shaping the future of JEOL cryo-electron microscopy technologies.
A memorable social highlight of the meeting was the evening visit to the historic Auchentoshan Distillery, one of the few Scottish distilleries that practices triple distillation, which gives its single malts a notably smooth and delicate character. Participants enjoyed a guided tour of the distillery, gaining insight into the whisky-making process from malt to maturation, followed by a tasting of several of its signature single malts. The evening concluded with a convivial dinner, providing an excellent opportunity for informal networking and continued discussion among attendees.
