Funded by the Medical Research Council, the 120kV side-entry electron microscope will be primarily used for imaging proteins and protein complexes embedded in negative stain. Experiments using negative stain gives researchers a quick readout of whether their sample warrants further imaging or whether they should change their sample preparation methods. This makes access to 'screening' microscopes such as our 1400 Flash and F2-Cryo vital for researchers as the first steps on the pathway to determine structures by cryo-EM.

We look forward to getting many years of use from the new machine!
