LEAF silver accreditation for SCMI and all CVR CL2 labs

Through the wider CVR Sustainability Team, the SCMI has achieved a silver LEAF award, underscoring a commitment to environmentally responsible research.
We are pleased to announce that the SCMI, through its active participation in the CVR Sustainability team, has contributed to the successful achievement of the silver level LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) accreditation for the CVR CL2 general and specialist labs. This recognition represents a major milestone in the commitment to environmentally responsible research and highlights the significant progress made in implementing sustainable laboratory practices within the CL2 laboratories.
This award emphasizes the joint effort to improve laboratory practices- including the management of the waste streams, freezer stores, equipment maintenance plans, and the recycling of equipment. Reviewers were particularly impressed with the CVR’s shared model of equipment and chemicals, which contribute to implementing energy-saving practices and reducing carbon footprints of the labs.
Looking ahead to the gold level accreditation, the CVR sustainability team are committed to drive forward best practices in sustainable science, setting an example for greener and more responsible research.
