Short Description

The principles, methods and theoretical approaches to Health Promotion / Improvement will be presented and studied in this course. The planning and evaluation of health promotion programmes at local, regional and national levels will serve as a particular focus.

Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to the theoretical approaches and practice of health promotion, including the planning and evaluation of health promotion programmes at local, regional and national levels. 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Critically appraise the contextual issues when developing healthy public policy

2. Critically assess the principles underlying the development of supportive environments for health promotion

3. Evaluate key aspects of strengthening community action and implementing behaviour change approaches to address health challenges

4. Critically examine evaluation of health promotion practice with regards to the key principles of effective evaluation.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
