Short Description
This course equips students to identify critical challenges within healthcare systems that are addressable through MedTech innovation. Students will learn structured methods for scoping areas of unmet needs, assessing the potential for device, software, AI, or data-driven solutions. A strong focus is placed on patient pathway mapping and robust evidence generation including economic considerations to inform decision-making and support implementation. Interactive workshops with healthcare and industry partners provide real-world context and practical skills in planning and evaluating evidence for successful MedTech adoption.

Course Aims
This course empowers students to confidently navigate complex healthcare systems and patient pathways by teaching systematic approaches to uncover unmet needs. Learners will gain practical frameworks to scope, validate, and build evidence for impactful solutions. Through hands-on activities, students will develop skills to critically evaluate innovations, identify opportunities for improvement, and design robust evidence strategies that support technology development and adoption across diverse healthcare settings.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse healthcare systems and patient-care pathways to identify unmet medical needs and their potential for technology-driven solutions
2. Critically evaluate the suitability of existing or new solutions to justify development decisions
3. Evaluate stakeholder requirements from multiple perspectives to inform development priorities
4. Design a robust evidence-generation framework that will support adoption decisions for a MedTech concept
