Timing will depend on placement organisation, but may include extended periods away from base.

A C3 must be achieved at first attempt at all taught courses and a B3 overall average achieved in the taught programme (120 credits)

Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non-Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below. 

It will not be possible to repeat the work leading to the reporting, but re-submission of revised reports will be permitted.

To provide an opportunity to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding gained during the programme within a working environment.

To give students practical experience in carrying out survey operations in a workplace environment.

To develop skills in reflection on tasks completed, independent investigation and report writing.

To develop key transferable skills including independent research and self-evaluation, interpersonal, team working and communications skills.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of a particular workplace and their work practices

■ Evaluate the role and strategies of the placement organisation and their position within it

■ Show an ability to work effectively as an individual and team member

■ Self-evaluate their own learning and acquired knowledge and skills gained through the placement

■ Present in written form an assessment of the work placement and produce a report to professional standard

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.

Regular attendance to the satisfaction of the placement organisation.

Submission of progress reports as required.
