Optional Courses: Global Animal Production, Production of Food from Animals, Technology Transfer and Commercialisation of Bioscience Research.

Further optional courses run in February. This year most students took the Global Animal Production and Production of Food from Animals courses. These courses focus on the methods used commercially to produce food of animal origin, including procedures to maintain animal welfare and food safety, food inspection and legal requirements. Assessment involves the completion of written assignments.

Another February course is Technology Transfer and Commercialisation of Bioscience Research, which gives students an insight into commercial aspects of biotechnology and is highly relevant to sectors of the agriculture and food industries. Students are given information on business structures, intellectual property and other commercial issues and work in groups to devise a business plan and market research strategy for a small company. This is a very useful course for students who plan to work in industry.
