The course provides a graduate-level analysis of corporate finance and financial markets and supplies students with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle corporate finance problems. Students will learn about the workings of mergers & acquisitions and corporate governance and through group work activities will discuss and evaluate recent market examples. Through interactions with their peers and the use of online platforms, students will have the opportunity to critically evaluate topical issues such as gender diversity, CSR and ESG. As part of the course, students will learn the theories of firm capital structure and their applications in real world. To enable a deeper understanding of the theory, students will have to read academic papers and policy reports and to demonstrate their understanding through interactive activities. Students will look at the different methods of how firms raise capital via debt & equity financing and build an understanding of where they sit on a firm's capital structure.  Students will study venture capital and private equity transactions in detail and identify how these transactions are structured to benefit the various parties involved. Students will simultaneously study venture capital & private equity markets to better understand the key participants in private capital financings.

The course aims to provide students with a sound knowledge of corporate finance theories and techniques and the appropriate skills to demonstrate and apply them. The course will make students understand how companies formulate decisions regarding corporate governance, capital structure, and mergers and acquisitions. The course will also demonstrate how firms raise different types of debt and equity financing.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
